LGPS Central (LGPSC) Ltd is the FCA-regulated asset manager for eight local authority pension funds across the Midlands. LGPSC is jointly owned on an equal shares basis by those Partner Fund, and it is responsible for managing almost £45bn of their assets. It is one of eight Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) asset pools in the UK.

LGPS Central is owned equally by all eight of its Partner Funds and is dedicated to the management of local government pension assets. LGPS Central manages assets across public and private markets both internally and through externally appointed investment managers.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Portfolio Manager to join our Investment team within the Private Markets (“PM”) group. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in Private Equity and Private Credit investments to take on a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of these functions. Based in Wolverhampton, you will be part of a high-performing team, working closely with colleagues to manage and expand investment portfolios that are key to our long-term strategy. This role is a certified role under the Senior Manager’s Certification Regime and will be subject to assessments in Fitness and Propriety and any other regulatory requirements.
What you will do: - Assist with the management of the Private Credit and Private Equity portfolios
- Develop and deliver innovative Private Credit and Private Equity strategies which meet the needs of the Partner Funds, keeping strategies under review considering market developments
- Origination, analysis, due diligence, legal review and negotiation (working with internal and external counsel), execution, and post-execution active monitoring and management of primary and secondary funds and direct co-investments
- Present new transactions to the LGPS Central Investment Committee for approval
- Participate actively in the Private Markets Investment Committee (PMIC), overseeing and advising on investment portfolios, contributing to the investment strategy of the pool, and devising, and delivering transparent and repeatable investment processes which meet the investment targets of the Partner Funds
- Act as the LGPS Central representative on Limited Partner Advisory Committees of external funds, where relevant
- Lead the development of future funds to be launched by LGPS Central
- Act as an ambassador for LGPS Central, for example through attendance or speaking at relevant conferences
- Follow the manager selection, appointment, monitoring and reporting framework
- Manage risk and compliance per the Risk and Compliance Framework
- Work with the Responsible Investment & Stewardship team to review and analyse ESG risks for all fund commitments and direct co-investments
- Provide assurance to the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Committee that the Private Equity and Private Credit portfolios are managed within the parameters set in the Prospectus and any Investment Management Agreement
- Champion a rigorous culture of high-performing, collaborative, research-based investing across LGPS Central
- Line Management and development of the Private Equity and Private Credit team's junior staff
Key Requirements - Significant experience of collaborative investment decision-making at a senior level, ideally in an FCA-regulated environment
- Substantial experience of Private Credit and Private Equity investments, including fund and co-investment products
- Able to evaluate the performance and risk of investment portfolios objectively
- Experience of contributing to policies on the selection of investments, portfolio construction, and portfolio monitoring and reporting
- Direct experience of successfully managing investment portfolios
- Experience of successful management and development of high-performing teams
- A high degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
- First-class interpersonal, people management and communication skills
Qualifications - Degree level or equivalent
- CFA or equivalent qualification/relevant investment experience
- Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA-approved person
