About Academic Support Team

The Academic Team is a welcoming, fast paced and highly focussed team. This department is responsible for supporting high standards of teaching, learning and assessment. They pride themselves on the quality of their service provided to students.

The team deals with a large volume of Student enquiries, therefore providing high levels of customer service in order to support both Staff and Students effectively and efficiently.


Position Overview


We are currently seeking Personal Tutors to join our academic team in the Business Management or Marketing or related subject areas.


This is a full-time Personal Tutor role (40 hours per week), and you will be based at either or both of the following campuses:

Eastgate House Campus – 40 Dukes Place, London, EC3A 7LP.

Wentworth House Campus - 350 Eastern Avenue, Gants Hill, London IG2 6NW.

And any additional campuses in London.

Salary

£25,400–£28,000 per annum, based on qualifications and experience.

Job Purpose

The Purpose of the Personal Tutor role is to provide support, pastoral care to students and dealing with student queries regarding Moodle and VLE. The role will also involve teaching.

The position primarily works to monitor the key performance indicators on student progression, retention and engagement to ensure that students achievements and satisfaction is maintained at high levels.

This Personal Tutor role will also involve supporting the lecturers by occasionally teaching, covering lecturer’s absences or supervising students.


Duties and Responsible

  • To identify the progressive learners and encourage them towards completing the course within agreed deadlines by facilitating their engagement and learning.
  • To track students’ engagement and progression and take necessary steps to ensure that students engage in the process of their learning, formative assessments and final submissions.
  • To provide one-to-one personal tutorials as well as group support and revision sessions for various modules in consultation with the Programme Leaders and Course teams.
  • To teach a few sessions per week and assist with marking.
  • To prepare various data sets on students’ retention and progress and ensure that high levels of performance standards is maintained and set KPIs are always achieved.
  • Continuously maintain communication with the current and previous learners who are required to complete their programme and help them overcome the barriers or gaps in their learning process.
  • Support and monitor the learners with the assignment submission process, resolve e-learning access related issues if any.
  • Updating students VLE.
  • Returning students learning and success plans on a one-to-one basis and have follow up meetings continuously track, monitor and support student learning and progress.
  • To review various teaching and learning resources and records pertaining to teaching, support, peer observations etc. and ensure that these are carried out in a timely manner.
  • To engage with the student representatives, student societies and peer assisted learning groups and provide the needed support, advice and guidance.
  • Provide additional tutoring on difficult topics, coordinate appointments with subject tutors to enable learners clarify their gaps in learning, understanding concepts.
  • To monitor student assignment submissions and coordinate with unit lecturers in ensuing students understand the expectations of various assignments.
  • To assist the academic teams in meeting various deadlines, reviews and documentation requirements.
  • To provide formative feedback on assignments, take up assessment responsibilities for grading summative assignments, internally verify assessments where appropriate.
  • To take up any relevant responsibilities as assigned by the line manager.
  • To participate in the evaluation and selection of applicants for admission to various courses and in the student recruitment process.
  • To assist the Programme Leaders and Course teams in review of various online resources on the VLE, upload and update learning resources for the programmes being delivered.
  • Supporting the academic administration department in various functions related to student support, information, advice and guidance, record keeping, certifications etc.
  • To coordinate administration of various student surveys, collating and analysing student feedback
  • Minute-taking for Academic Committee meetings or student meetings where needed.
  • Be a liaison between Academic Staff and Students where needed for assignment and support services, provide advice on academic regulations and procedures in the context of qualifications being pursued by students across campuses.
  • To support the Lecturing team in the covering sessions where needed.
  • Treat each student as an individual, understanding that each student has different needs and support them by treating them with respect, dignity and empathy.
  • Additional responsibilities according to the business needs as assigned by the line manager and senior management team.


General Duties

  • To manage work effectively and efficiently in supporting the progression of students.
  • Flexible to travel to and/or work from - any campus and availability for extended hours to support students from evening / Saturday / Sunday groups as required.
  • Flexible to join the academic team at main campus to meet various operational and academic exigencies from time to time.
  • Flexibility to ensure achievement of individual, departmental and companywide goals and targets.
  • To maintain strict confidentiality about applicants/students and other personal and academic information.
  • Adhere to all established systems within the department and implement any changes only as requested/authorised by management.
  • Ensure accurate records and data entry onto all systems as required by the department and management to enable accurate and full reporting.
  • Ensure the safety of your area by complying with all Health & Safety policies and procedures and reporting any issues to the Health & Safety Manager without delay.


The above list of duties is neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake duties as may reasonably expected within the scope and grading of the post and within the competencies of the post holder. All Staff are required to be professional, supportive and flexible in line with their position, department and the college.


Essential Criteria

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field, awarded with merit or distinction (or equivalent).
  • Evidence of the ability to deliver effective student support.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to meet the needs of diverse learners and a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice.
  • A proactive approach to professional development and academic growth, with a willingness to contribute to a supportive and inclusive academic community.


Desirable Criteria

  • A PhD in a relevant field, or evidence of progress towards attaining one.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary teaching, with a commitment to innovative teaching practices and ongoing professional development.
  • Familiarity with research software and strong IT proficiency.
  • Networks with relevant employers or industry professionals in your subject area.
  • Experience teaching at Level 6 or Level 7.
